Final 2 A

Blakemere

A bespoke rear extension in the heart of Sale, for a growing family with a passion for art and design.

The creation of an unconventionally shaped rear extension allowed MOJO to bring additional light, and interest into a large, bespoke family living, dining and kitchen space.

The clients approached MOJO through a recommendation as they had recently purchased an old house at auction in Sale that they wanted help with to transform it into a dynamic family home.

The priority was to bring more light into the dark interior, and to design a large multi-use space consisting of a bespoke kitchen, family dining area, lounge for the children and a DJ area for entertaining.

We looked at breaking the space into two key zones, the side of the house and the rear, as we knew both would offer different spatial qualities. By merging the two forms together it created a unique shape for the extension which was distinct and in keeping with the clients taste for a unique design.

The WC and shower room at the side of the house added a much needed facility for the clients growing family, as well as the utility room which flowed from the new open plan kitchen.
In the new main living space we used colour to separate the lounge from the dining and kitchen areas, to give it a distinct personality, and the kitchen mirrored the tones in its cabinetry.

We chose to use a lighter brick material in order to show a distinct design vision for a house which already has marks of previous architectural changes from both the 60s and 80s.

The combination of design inputs on the Blakemere was a joyous process in not only a distinct addition to the clients home, but to the area at large.
The family have greatly benefited from the additional light and space which will last for many years to come.

"Light and space were our key concern as this was an older property, but we've just been blown away by the design and how MOJO created our perfect home.
We love it!"
